Location & Getting Around
Byron Bay’s town centre is a scenic 15-minute walk along the beach (tide permitting) or a quick 5-minute drive from East on Byron.
East on Byron is located directly opposite Belongil Beach, just 20 metres from the sand. You can swim and surf along any of the beaches in the bay, though like all beaches, conditions can sometimes be unsafe.
For the safest swim, we recommend a patrolled beach in town, like Main Beach, and always swimming between the flags. As always, please check conditions before heading in.
No, there’s plenty to do and explore on foot. If you’d like to venture further, local Ubers and taxis are available, and you can also hire a push bike or e-bike to get around. See our transport options below for more information on getting here and getting around.
Getting to East on Byron is easy, with options to suit every budget and group size. Whether you’re flying into Ballina, Gold Coast, or Brisbane Airport, you can choose from a hire car, scheduled bus, or a private transfer straight to our door.
Once you’re here, there’s no need to hire a car as most of Byron Bay is walkable, and local Ubers, taxis, and bike or e-bike hire are all available to help you get around.

The whale season runs May to November, with the best sightings typically from June to September as humpbacks migrate along the coast, so keep an eye on the horizon during your stay.
